Ohhhhh boy. Autocross is a ton of fun. Basically, autocross is a road course on flat pavement with several cones that you have to drive your car through as fast as possible. It is a race against the clock, not against other cars (that would be pretty dangerous). This was the first time I've ever done it, so I had a lot of issues that I had to overcome as a novice. I got 6 runs on the course, and basically my first three runs were completely wasted. You can see from my times on the results page that my last three runs had much better times than the last. My last three times weren't too bad, but at that point my overall weighted score was wrecked for the day.
My first three runs I was trying to go waaaaay too fast, which really killed my traction and caused me to lose control of my car several times. I can't wait to go again in a few weeks to improve my time.
I would recommend to anyone who hasn't ever raced before, no matter what kind of car you have - try it out for a day. It only costs $40, and you learn a lot about your car and how to drive better.
Check out pics of the auto-cross here. The outfit was nice - at Englishtown Raceway you are required to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants when you are racing, so it worked well.
